Cyclones split the ShareSLO Mustang Classic opener

After a rain delay, the Iowa State softball team played two games on Friday, resulting in one win and one loss.

The Cyclones had a lopsided loss to Utah State, losing 10-1, while claiming victory against Cal Poly, 4-2.

The Utah State offense came out strong with a 4-0 lead in the first inning, leaving Iowa State with a hefty deficit to cut into. Throughout the game, Utah State kept the lead, scoring two runs in the third inning.

Senior Sally Woolpert singled up the middle in the 3rd inning which resulted in Sami Williams scoring the lone run by the Cyclones.

Utah State capped the game off with a home run into left field to ice the game with a 10-1 victory.

Later on, Iowa State came back for a victory against Cal Poly 4-2. The Cyclones started out with a strong first inning with Mikayla Ramos singling to left field to result in Williams scoring.

In the fourth inning, Kaylee Bosworth scored due to a hit by a pitch, making the score 2-0. By the end of its offensive run, Iowa State was up 3-1 with a Woolpert fly out to left field.

Bosworth topped off the Cyclones lead with a triple into center field which brought the final score to 4-2.

The Cyclones will play Saturday against Utah State and Cal Poly again.
