LETTER: Why not raffle right to blow up Towers?
April 11, 2005
According to the Jan. 11 Daily article “Time for Towers to bid Iowa State farewell,” the Towers residence halls will be imploded. I and many others will definitely be there to watch it happen.
But why do we just have to watch? Why can’t we participate in the actual implosion?
I think there should be a raffle to determine who will be the person who gets to push the button that will bring the buildings down. I would love to be able to say that I pushed the button that brought down one of the city’s most recognizable “high rise” buildings.
I have never been inside of them, much less lived in them, but I would still like to push the button. I can only imagine how the people who lived in the buildings would feel about being able to blow them up. The university always needs money. This seems like a worthwhile cause to me.
