LETTER: Tibetan history full of links to China
January 26, 2005
Apparently the columnist ignored lots of common sense and Tibet history. Tibet has been a district of China since Yuan dynasty of A.D. 842, and since then the successive China Empires have governed the Tibet district. When the Qing emperor granted the title of “Dalai Lama” at A.D. 1653, it showed clearly that Tibet is a part of China. All Tibetan farmers were serfs before the 1949 emancipation by the communist Chinese government. As we know, serfs had no human freedom, let alone human rights, before the Chinese government set them free. Anyway, the Tibet issue is a Chinese domestic affair, and Chinese people need neither foreign interference nor “world cops.” I suggest the columnist learn Tibet history first before publishing ignorant commentary.
