LETTER: Protesters aren’t Benedict Arnold
December 9, 2004
This is feedback to Kayla Down’s Dec. 7 letter “Stop protesting; support Bush.” I have relatives and friends in the military currently serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. I support them in their safe return home. And though I agree the comment of “the soldier, not the demonstrator” gives us the right to protest, it is that right which I believe is most important. It seems to me that this country is what it is, based on the fact that we have the right to disagree. It appears that some people don’t care for a free-thinking society. I guess it’s because we don’t agree with Kayla.
I do not support the post-“Mission Accomplished, While We Are Here We Might As Well…” war. And if I choose to protest against such actions and decisions, I will. I would like to thank the American soldier for that right.
I don’t think protesters are anti-American, I just think they have something to say. It all comes down to whether or not people will stop to look and listen … and that includes the demonstrators themselves.
