LETTER: The best part of the body? The soul

Ms. Hardy’s intentions in her article about “Black Love” is well understood, but there are too many implications of bias and frustration coming out of this article for anyone to take it for face value.

I will admit that the core of this issue, which is the social oppression of black women in relationships, is very debatable. It is really hard to argue for equality in this issue of courting because it is a matter of choice to decide with whom we want to be. Of course, the typical male is driven by physical attraction, and as she mentioned, the image in our culture of beauty is a lighter-skinned female.

Here is the solution: Diverting all men (and women for that matter) from making relational choices solely off material and physical appearance. Once we start looking into the heart of a person, we begin to put less value on the cover and start reading the book. We can see what the future with this person would look like and help avoid some of the common relational problems.

It seems like the only real way to implement this solution into our world is to put more emphasis on something that is truly being neglected: the human soul.
