LETTER: Bush has done nothing for women
October 10, 2004
First of all, this is one of the funniest things that I have read all day.
When I read the headline I figured it had to be a joke. Big “W” helping out women? Yeah right, I can see that through all of his policies. Nicole, have you forgotten who fought for a woman’s right to vote? They were not women supported by the Grand Old Party. They were women who put themselves on the line protesting for their beliefs that women were capable of voting.
This makes me really upset that you dismiss all of women’s history. If you still don’t believe me, the Republican Party has changed so much since the 1920s that these historical things are not even comparable to the actions of today’s GOP.
On to our wonderful, negligent president; he has not only done nothing for women in the past three-and-a-half years, he has actually taken them back about 10 to 20 years. Instead of decreasing the wage gap, it has actually widened while Bush has been in office. Women are now down to 71 cents for every dollar that a man makes.
Bush has cut funding to programs internationally and locally. Instead of decreasing the need for abortions, he has made them less accessible and, in turn, is not educating women on how to not get pregnant.
Abstinence-only education is the biggest joke that I have ever heard. How about the increased funding for Viagra but not birth control? If you ask me, they go hand-in-hand.
I don’t know about you, Nicole, but I have thought long and hard about where I want my life to go and it is not back to the kitchen. Before you disregard all of women’s history, why don’t you educate yourself so you can be an responsible voter?
And also, the next time you write an article, some supportive details would really be nice. However, I guess when you are writing about this topic, that is hard to do.
