LETTER: International student enrollment dropped

I enjoyed reading the recent article and editorial on international undergraduate enrollment trends. However, I think one point should be clarified: In the editorial on Sept. 30, the Daily stated, “fall enrollment of international undergraduate students jumped 25 percent from last year.” Actually, it is only new international student enrollment that increased. Total international undergraduate enrollment has continued a downward trend that began after the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

We hope that this fall’s increase in new international undergraduates is a positive sign that that trend is now reversing.
