LETTER: ISU Republicans didn’t boo Moore
October 19, 2004
In Response to Julia Sweet’s Oct. 19 letter, maybe the next time you attend an event open to the entire public, you might just want to look at exactly who was heckling.
As a member of the ISU Republicans, I can tell you it was not us who were yelling obscenities or interrupting Moore. We simply sat quietly the entire time and listened to his mindless rants.
As far as respectful behavior, I have never been met by a more hostile, disrespectful crowd. Anyone who picked up a copy of the Daily on Monday saw me arguing with Mr. Clayton and his wife. The problem here? I was the calmest person in that crowd.
That picture was taken less than five minutes after I entered the crowd and handed out fliers. This was one of the many times I decided to defend myself and my beliefs, and I did so peacefully (although quite audibly and forcefully). I did not choose to spit on, hit or kick anyone who did not share my viewpoint, as many of the people in the crowd did to my fellow Republicans present.
Democrats take note: If you’re planning on attending Ann Coulter’s presentation on Oct. 29, try to be as respectful as the ISU College Republicans were at Michael Moore’s speech.
