LETTER: Bush committed crimes against peace
October 17, 2004
In his Oct. 15 letter, “Debate questions Bush must answer,” Professor Prestemon asked whether pre-emptive military strikes should continue to be part of our foreign policy.
They should not. The aggressive war against Iraq, which had not attacked the United States, is a “crime against peace,” according to the Nuremberg trials after World War II, and it violates other international pacts that condemn war as an instrument of foreign policy.
If the United States is to lead the effort to reduce terrorism, we must oppose all unprovoked acts of aggression, especially those of our own government. We must remove the current administration, which recklessly abandoned diplomacy, uncritically handled intelligence and irresponsibly misused our soldiers.
