LETTER: Control the DOR or it’ll control you
September 23, 2004
I would like to thank the Daily editorial board for its kind words regarding the Department of Residence Student Advisory Council, and I sincerely hope that the editorial board continues to watch the Inter-Residence Hall Association throughout the coming year.
There should be major changes from past years, and if things go as planned, they will continue to be a vital and effective part of the Iowa State community. Throughout this year, expect to see the Student Advisory Council and IRHA as well as the Frederiksen Court Community Council and the University Family Housing Council work collectively to effect positive change for students.
The IRHA has many ideas of how to make itself a more effective organization, and the Student Advisory Council will support them in their efforts to improve. Our goal as an advisory council is to work with them in their quest to represent students and not to usurp power or diminish them in any way.
In order for the Advisory Council, IRHA, the Frederiksen Court Community Council, and the University Family Housing Council to be effective, we need all students in the DOR managed housing to be active.
The Student Advisory council can only represent you if you let us. Get involved by e-mailing us at [email protected] and request an application. When we get our full Web site (http://www.iastate.edu/~dorstadv) up, there will be a space for comment and suggestion submission.
Although I cannot guarantee that this council or IRHA will prevent unfortunate situations, it is our hope that at least we can bring your voice to the decision making table.
Philip De Koster
Chair
