LETTER: Honor the military by enjoying liberty
September 21, 2004
I read Aaron Gott’s letter in the Sept. 21 Daily, and I have to say that I agree. Many people in our nation (both Republicans and Democrats) fail to remember the hard work and sacrifice of the members of the Armed Forces.
However, I think that there was a point missing from your letter.
I can, in some ways, relate to your feelings of frustration because my boyfriend was among those deployed in Iraq. Now that he’s returned, we’re already counting the weeks before his next deployment. My relationship with him has reminded me of the rights and responsibilities that I enjoy as an American.
For various reasons that have been presented many times, I believe that the war in Iraq has been conducted by the wrong means and for the wrong reasons. Therefore, I am honoring my boyfriend’s service by taking full advantage of the freedoms he protects and by fighting to ensure that his sacrifice is meaningful.
