LETTER: Where’s the love at ISU, in Ames?
June 14, 2004
Iowa State women would not know a good guy if they were sucker punched in the face by one. I am a nice guy who is looking for something more than just a one time hook up.
Funny, you are laughing — but it’s the truth if you are a male over the age of 22.
Here is my story: I am a master’s student in the economics department. I love all people, besides Lakers fans because they beat my beloved Timberwolves.
I go to bars, and people here do not love other people. Why does everyone here feel the need to be better than everyone else?
Honestly, I have completed a lot in my life, but I don’t ever think I am better than anyone in the whole state of Iowa. Why is it that we go to a bar and think that we are some kind of superior person? Please tell me why — is there an alternative to this madness that we call “going out?”
I believe that everyone could better themselves in some way by getting to know themselves. Maybe going out is just an excuse for ignoring what is really calling us?
This may seem just like a drunken rant, which I wouldn’t blame anyone for thinking that. However, I believe there is more to this great city than just going out, getting drunk, and hooking up with a stranger. There is love in this city. You can feel it, if you just take the time.
If there is a place where people go and be merry, I would like to know that destination because it is not a place that many know about. I myself am not afraid to go there, unlike many others who hide behind the glass of beer. I would be willing to not drink for the rest of my life if I could see where the beauty of this city lies. I know the beauty lies within the people, but where are the people that I seek to meet? I would welcome anyone who agrees with me, and hope that anyone who disagrees can show me the way around this great city of Ames.
