The Inter-Residence Hall Association will discuss plans for Residence Hall Week and Dining Days at its Thursday meeting.

Kate Bruns, communication specialist for the Department of Residence, said IRHA is co-sponsoring Dining Days.

The Department of Residence will be sponsoring a week of special promotions beginning Monday, Bruns said. Each day of the week will offer special savings or promotions, including discounts on dining service food, free fountain pop in the Memorial Union and a “Party on the Patio” of the Union Drive Community Center.

The patio party will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and will feature live bands and food.

IRHA Director of Special Events Autumn Hare said IRHA is co-sponsoring the concert for the patio party, which will feature the music of Reconcile and The Rock Band. The bands will perform from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

There will be a $4 charge for the food, which will include burgers, brats and keg root beer, Bruns said. The week-long Dining Days will allow students to “try something they haven’t tried before,” Bruns said.

Hare will also discuss plans for Residence Hall Week, which will be held the last week in October.

Hare said Sunday night of Residence Hall Week will be a pizza fest.

“Area pizza places will bring in pizzas, and students will vote on their favorite pizza,” she said. The pizza will be free for all students in the residence halls, she said.

Also planned is a concert featuring Tonic Sol-fa, an a cappella group from Minneapolis. The concert will be Oct. 28 in the Sun Room of the Memorial Union.

Hare said IRHA’s special events committee is looking for input from residence hall students on what sorts of activities should be held during the week.

The special events committee meets at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday nights in the IRHA office.

Hare said the committee is also considering expanding its budget. “We want to be able to do better quality activities,” she said.

Eric Peters, president of IRHA, said he will hopefully be able to seat the new president and secretary for Free Friday Flicks before the meeting.

Also at the meeting, Peters said a bill titled “Hostile Take-over” will be voted on Thursday night. The bill would allow the newly elected IRHA president and vice president to take office in the spring the Monday before the last meeting. The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. in the Maple-Willow-Larch commons.
