Director of the Department of Residence Randy Alexander will give a presentation to the Inter-Residence Hall Association Thursday about debts the department is currently facing and what is being done to resolve the issue.

Alexander said he is going to inform IRHA members of the current budget deficit within the Department of Residence budget and will address where the department is going.

John Shertzer, adviser of IRHA, said Alexander is usually invited to an IRHA meeting early in the year so he can get to know the group.

Alexander will speak about the changes made this year to manage the budget, particularly the closing of Linden Hall Dining Services, Shertzer said.

The Department of Residence is considering closing Linden Dining Services this year because enrollment is down, Alexander said. He said he will know for sure if the dining hall will close within the next few days.

IRHA President Eric Peters said a new bill that will amend IRHA by-laws will also be introduced at the meeting.

The new bill will amend the by-laws by allowing the newly-elected IRHA president and vice president to take office the Monday before the last meeting, he said.

To seat new IRHA members for the upcoming year, the president must be in office, he said. The new by-laws will allow the president and vice president to seat the new cabinet by the last meeting of the year, Peters said.

If the bill passes, “the president and vice president will take office the week before dead week,” Peters said.

Todd Voss, IRHA leadership adviser, said there will be an informational meeting for the Residence Hall Leadership Organization at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Friley Terrace Room.

“[The Residence Hall Leadership Organization] was formed last semester to promote leadership skills among residence hall students,” Voss said.

Thursday’s IRHA meeting will be at 7 p.m. in the South Ballroom of the Memorial Union.
