Fashion showed its face Friday and Saturday night, during the Mosaic 2001 Fashion Show.

The show was put on by students in the Department of Textiles and Clothing as an opportunity to showcase their work to family, friends and professionals in the apparel industry.

“I felt the show was an absolute success,” said Natalie Bodnar, public relations co-director for Mosaic 2001. “All the months of hard work definitely paid off.”

Part of the success was due to collaboration between the different directors, committee members and faculty advisers, she said.

“It was very exciting to see the show come together and to see how all the students’ collections turned out,” said Angela Sampson, design director for the fashion show.

Thirty-one students in the textiles and clothing department entered designs into the show this year. Students’ designs were judged by professionals in the apparel industry.

The show consisted of six different categories including collection, experimental, casual wear, evening wear, accessories and portfolio. Sampson, senior in apparel merchandising, design and production, won the Best of Show Award for her evening wear collection. She also received first place in collection. “I came up with the collection idea when I was studying in Europe this summer,” Sampson said. Her collection consisted of four dresses based on men’s shirts.

Tiffani Smith, senior in apparel, merchandising, design and production, received first place in the evening wear category for her purple evening gown.

“I was shocked when I won because you never know what the judges are looking for,” she said. “I am really happy that all my hard work paid off.”
