ISU men’s assistant basketball coach Terry Carroll will be announced as the new head men’s basketball coach at the University of Denver in a press conference in Denver today.

Carroll will take over the Pioneer job after spending three years on the ISU staff as an assistant to head coach Larry Eustachy.

In those three seasons, the Cyclones won back-to-back Big 12 regular season championships and won the Big 12 conference tournament, and advanced to the Elite Eight of the NCAA tournament in the 1999-2000 season.

University of Denver Director of Athletics M. Dianne Murphy announced the selection of Carroll yesterday and had high praise for the new Pioneer coach.

“After a very thorough national search, we have hired a winner,” Murphy said in a press release. “Terry Carroll brings outstanding coaching credentials, experience, success and passion for the game to this head coaching position. I couldn’t be more pleased with all of the qualities he has displayed and the experience he brings to Denver.”

Before Iowa State, Carroll had a stellar coaching record on the junior college level. Carroll led Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa to two national titles and turned in a nine-year record of 269-50.

Carroll’s coaching days started as an assistant at Drake from 1984-88. He also spent three years as the head boys’ basketball coach at Fort Dodge High School and one year in the same position at Ottumwa.

Carroll is the second ISU assistant to leave for a head coaching job at another school. Leonard Perry was named the head coach at Idaho on March 20.
