Sam Wong’s column on Ralph Nader was weak on logic and little more than Nader-supporter bashing. The idea that Rage Against the Machine has only two causes is laughable. Their last three videos dealt with sweatshops, American poverty and Wall Street greed. Why did Rage name the protesters at the Democratic and Republican conventions Freedom Fighters of the week? They are sick of the corrupt, two-party system. Nader is taking a stand on this. Maybe the video involves Nader rhetoric because Rage supports Nader rhetoric. Nader is old, white and rich, but you didn’t mention he has given over $10 million to charities in the last 30 years. Gore made $200,000 in 1997 and donated $350. You claim Gore is a tree-hugger, but the Clinton-Gore administration failed to force auto makers to increase fuel efficiency to 40 miles per gallon as they promised in 1992. These are our environmental presidents? Gore’s energy efficiency plan is the same one he and Clinton rolled out eight years ago. Think he’ll follow through this term? Me neither. If you think deciding between the lesser of two evils isn’t what this democracy is about then vote for Nader. If you support the death penalty, the damage free trade is causing, soft money funding our elections, and going half-assed on what we believe than go ahead and vote for Gore. Me? I’m not going to waste my vote. I’ll save it for something I believe in. Benjamin Combs
