Story County United Way and Habitat for Humanity will try to top last year’s joint fund-raising campaign by raising $215,000. Last year, the two merged for the first time for the fund raiser. The two groups raised $210,000, about $10,000 more than their set goal. Last week, ISU employees received their donation envelopes, containing separate pledge cards for United Way and Habitat, according to a press release from University Relations. “There is no real pressure [to give]. It’s just a good way to return something to the community,” said Joel Geske, associate professor of journalism and mass communication. The Story County Habitat for Humanity will receive $30,000 of the donated money to build a a new house for a single father of two children. This will be the fourth year that ISU volunteers have adopted a Habitat project as part of Homecoming. For more information see theHabitat for Humanity Website
