To a certain extent, I agree with Matt Craft’s idea that we do need to make Iowa State a cooler place to be. But I think some of the ways he wants to go about it are wrong.

One is increasing research, but not at the cost of educating the students. I for one already feel as though research is the main focus of the university.

I think my education has been sacrificed in the name of research.

In my department, I feel totally ignored because I am not a grad student yet.

This is one of the reasons I will be transferring to a different university this spring.

The same is true with athletics. I think they already play too big of a role on our campus.

Athletes get special treatment and a lot of financial aid that I could use instead of being so far in debt because the only financial aid I can get is loans. They’ll allow me to work in a work-study program, though, gee thanks.

I do however, agree that getting more art and cultural events and giving our campus a more urban look will aid in making our campus cooler
