Start walking

To the editor:

Gas prices were on the rise; now prices are starting to drop finally. OPEC has decided to increase production, causing the decrease we have been hoping for. My question is, why?

Why would an organization that provides the world with 35 percent of its oil decide to lower prices when it doesn’t need to? Prices have been low in the past because of competition between nations who could provide more oil at lower prices.

OPEC has figured this out and decided to eliminate competition and regulate prices and production. OPEC is not going to lighten up much, and prices will rise again. We are all going to have to deal with high prices eventually. The way to get around high prices: Find alternate transportation.

People in a city deal with high prices all the time, so they find some convenient ways around it: mass transportation, walking, biking and carpooling.

These solutions will come in handy when gasoline is not around. When the oil runs out, what is the world going to do? Unless we find alternate energy, be prepared to walk. Sure, oil isn’t going to run out while we are still alive, but it will someday.

We need to cut back on driving to create a lower demand and get companies to lower their oil prices. It will also save money. You’ll be able to stretch that tank of gas maybe three or four days longer.

The government can also take part in this. The government can maybe put some money into finding alternate forms of energy that would be more efficient than gasoline. If everyone decides just to ignore the fact that oil doesn’t last forever, we are all going to end up with plenty of cars but no way to run them.
