Six-year-old should be held accountable

To the editor:

I agree with Ms. Perez’s letter as far as holding parents accountable for their child’s actions.

However, the 6-year-old should also be held accountable for his actions.

For one, the kind of parents that would leave a loaded weapon on their bed are the same kind that would buy an illegal, stolen weapon.

That was exactly the kind of weapon that was used on defenseless 6-year-old Kayla.

Secondly, I believe the young boy did intend to kill his classmate.

The news reported that the young boy had a history of violent behavior, including stabbing other classmates with pencils.

The boy consciously hid the weapon in his pants, and when the children were lined up for their next activity, he shot her in the neck and threatened other children and teachers that were around.

Yes, I know how MOST kids are. Ms. Perez, I am sure you were a good kid growing up with a good family for support.

However, I do not believe this to be the same for this child.

I agree that parents need to keep an eye on their children, but unfortunately, this child’s father is in jail right now. As for this child, I believe he is a menace to society.

I believe if he had a different sort of home environment, Kayla would still be alive.

However, this is not the case. That boy should be institutionalized for the rest of his natural life.

I think that is a very reasonable punishment considering the parents of little Kayla will have to live the rest of their lives without her.
