Jerrett is a freshman-hating hypocrite

While I, for the most part, enjoyed and agreed with Greg Jerrett’s column from the Sept. 17 Daily entitled “This is for the people of the sun — it’s coming back around” concerning letters he runs from zealots, fanatics, and hate-mongers, I have one objection.

In paragraph 24, the last sentence, fifth column in the Daily, Mr. Jerrett says ” … expressed succinctly.ÿ(That’s quick and to the point for the freshmen.)”ÿ

Isn’t this parenthetical statement a bit hypocritical, notwithstanding that obviously the insult was offhand rather than spiteful or hateful?

I’ve probably known the meaning of the word “succinct” since I was at least in eighth grade.ÿI resent being misgrouped in this way.

Granted, I’m not a freshman now, but, if anything, I have less command of the English language now than I did my freshman year because I’m not enrolled in an English class this semester.

I’ve always been vehemently opposed to the generalization of freshmen.

It is my belief that there are likely many freshmen who know more now about one subject or another than Mr. Jerrett or I will ever know about those subjects.ÿ

I doubt that he would seriously disagree with me on this point.

I’d like to reiterate that for the most part I agreed with and enjoyed Greg Jerrett’s article.

I would simply like to see an end to the stereotyping of freshmen.

If I end up sounding overly politically correct because of it, then so be it.
