Rash judgments

Ksenija Pavlovic

I am from Yugoslavia, and to tell you the truth, it is really hard for me to watch my country being destroyed by people who do not even know where Kosovo is on the globe. You have to understand the history before you jump into any judgements.ÿYou cannot compare what is happening in Yugoslavia to Nazi Germany — or maybe you can.

Nazi Germany had propaganda. If you repeat a lie enough times, people will start believing it. I can see this happening in the media now. You don’t see the other perspective; you see only one side. You have to open your eyes and try to think about this twice. ÿ

Innocent people are dying, for what? Because of the genocide of Albanian people? That is a lie. Albanians have lived in the Serbian providence of Kosovo for many years, and now recently they are asking for independence. What independence? They have their own country of Albania. What else do they want? Kosovo is a sacred land to Serbs; it has been for many centuries. Why would they ever want to give up their own territory to someone who has their own country? ÿ

No country would ever do this, and that is why Milosevic does not want to sign any agreements. So if we talk about genocide, we should talk about innocent people dying now in Serbia. Don’t you consider that genocide?

Albanians in Kosovo provoked Serbia by asking for independence. Serbia can’t let that happen. The United States and NATO march in defending Albanians. Albanians are not defenseless. They have their own army which has caused this whole mess. This is a terrorist army trying to take away Serbia’s territory. The United States and NATO support them and bomb Serbs. Serbs are dying because they want to keep their own territory Is that right? Innocent people are dying, for what?

You cannot get peace with aggression; it is just wrong. Hundreds of innocent people have already been killed in Serbia by your bombing. Is it that the United States wants to prove to the whole world that this is what happens if you mess with them?

You have to understand, the media here is slanted, and there is no reason to destroy a country for no reason at all. My friends and family are dying over there for no reason, and I can’t let that be supported.

You cannot make rash judgements like that; you cannot decide on the destiny of millions of Serbs based on slanted media reports — you have to open up your eyes. You have to understand what is going on before making any judgements.
