Judge not

I would like to respond to Perry Paulding’s letter “Frogs in a kettle.” You make a good point that society, as a whole, is not a good judge of right and wrong.

However, I disagree with the implications this fact has on the sexual orientation controversy.

You’re saying that because the Bible says homosexuality is wrong, this is an absolute truth and not open to discussion.

However, God also gave us a brain and a conscience, presumably to use for more than gathering berries and hunting mammoths. Let’s use them, shall we?

You’re saying we have a choice about our sexual orientation.

I certainly can’t speak for anyone besides myself, but I do not have a choice.

Never had and most likely never will.

To me, the very thought of “being” with another male practically brings up my lunch. And you’re saying I could choose to prefer males?

Maybe you’re different than I, Mr. Paulding.

Perhaps you’ve gone through life sneaking peeks at men’s backsides, but because of your strong faith, have been able to resist the overpowering urge to do the nasty with other men.

If this is the case, I applaud your strength. But I highly doubt that’s how it is.

Most likely, you’ve always been heterosexual. You were born heterosexual.

God MADE you heterosexual. You never had any more choice about it than I did, and no more than anyone else does. Judge not.
