I would like to thank you and the Daily very much for publishing the letter, “Looking for Melvin in Central Iowa.”

The letter caught my attention, and after further reading, I discovered that Melvin G. Vaughn is my grandfather.

I wrote James, the sender of the letter, and discovered a new part of my family in France.

We have been corresponding for the past few days. I have found new cousins, aunts and uncles living in Avignon, France.

I have always been accustomed to having one cousin on this side of the family. Now much to my surprise, I have discovered three more!

My father and I are now compiling facts and photos about our family here to send to France.

James and his family are doing the same.

We now realize it is up to James and myself to discover our lost family history.

A sincere thank you to the Daily staff for opening my eyes to a new future for both of our families.
