Iowa State’s players and coaches knew Saturday’s matchup with No. 11 Texas was more than just another game.

The No. 20 Cyclones entered 3-0 in the Big 12, as did the Longhorns. Both teams were ranked and a win would boost NCAA Tournament resumes, along with each team’s chance of competing at the top of the Big 12.

In the end, the Longhorns prevailed and moved to 4-0. Iowa State dropped to 13-3 (3-1 Big 12) with the loss.

Iowa State led 15-13 after the first quarter and was tied with Texas at 28-apiece at halftime. Senior Bridget Carleton and sophomore Kristin Scott led the way for the Cyclones early.

In the second half, Texas led by as many as 13 points before Iowa State used a 12-2 run to tie the game in the fourth quarter. Both teams traded buckets down the stretch before Texas took a 64-62 lead. Iowa State had the ball with a chance to win or tie, but Carleton missed and Texas walked out with a win.

Carleton finished with 20 points and nine rebounds. Scott had 15 points (6-of-9 shooting) and nine rebounds.
