NASCAR correction

Chad Drury is a well-spoken columnist, but his NASCAR article was written out of ignorance. As a NASCAR fan, I am trying to be objective, so please bear with me.

He has a few good points, but a few of his comments show his lack of knowledge when it comes to racing.

He quoted from Webster’s Dictionary regarding the definition of an athlete as “one trained in an exercise or game requiring strength, skill and stamina.”

Drive a car for 500 miles at 180 mph with 40 other cars around you without getting out to stretch your legs when you get tired. I would call that strength, skill and stamina. He didn’t even know what an “interval” was. A good reporter would have researched this.

He also mentioned that “most people associate racing with beer-drinking hillbillies from the backwoods of the Carolinas. If this is the case, why bring it to places that lack it.” Simple Chad: The people want it.Investors don’t sink millions of dollars into building a track just to put a track there. It’s called market research.
