Blood and guts on the Fox channel

Ross Schaefer

You just gotta love the Fox channel.

Last night, I flipped on the tube. They were showing police videos. Dozens of drunk drivers running off the road or crashing at high speed in rapid-fire, hyper MTV style.

On to shoot-outs with high powered weapons. Crooks violently robbing convenience stores.

Commercial break. “Next on Fox: When Good Times Go Bad.” Rapid-fire clips of surfers getting crushed under high power waves. Tandem parachute jumpers in desperate trouble on their way to an imminent death.

A girl getting her leg mauled by a lion. Bungee breaking on a bungee jumper. Dude probably killed.

Another commercial comes on for NHL on Fox. Hockey player violently getting body slammed into wall at full blast by another player.

This gives me an idea. How about a new cable channel: The Brutality Channel, 24 hours a day. Postal workers killing innocent people. War footage. Rape. Blood spurting everywhere. Late night erotic bondage movies. People would love it!

It’s probably just me; I must be a prude. Isn’t this whole thing a little out of control? Free speech is one thing, but prime-time TV showing death footage? Sure, you don’t see the people dying, but you know they do, and they could have shown it. How long ’til they do?
