Cyclones open Big 12 season with win in Stillwater

Iowa State returned from an 11-day break with its first Big 12 game of the season. The Cyclones started off the Big 12 slate on a high note, defeating Oklahoma State, 69-63.

The first half was rocky for Iowa State.

The Cyclones jumped out to an 18-6 lead early, thanks to four made 3-pointers and strong defense.

Oklahoma State battled back. The Cowboys ended the first half on a 9-0 run to take a 36-35 lead going into the break.

Redshirt senior Marial Shayok (11) and sophomore Lindell Wigginton (10) led the Cyclones in scoring in the first half. Wigginton led all scorers with 17 points and led Iowa State with eight rebounds. Shayok also had 17 points to tie for the game-high.

Freshman Tyrese Haliburton had 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting. He added four rebounds and three assists, along with two blocks and a steal on the defensive end.

Iowa State plays No. 5 Kansas at 4 p.m. on Saturday at Hilton Coliseum.
