Iowa State will bid farewell to the longest-serving head coach in the Cyclone athletic department.

Dale Anderson, head coach of the Cyclone men’s golf team, announced he would retire at the end of the 1997 season. Anderson has served three decades as ISU’s head golf coach.

In an issued statement, ISU athletic director Gene Smith praised Anderson’s contributions to Iowa State over his tenure. “Dale has built a strong program and we are grateful for the many contributions he has made to Iowa State University,” Smith said. Smith noted the consistency of Anderson’s teams as finishers in the upper half of the Big Eight conference throughout the years.

Smith also attributed the golf team’s readiness for the Big 12 conference to Anderson’s efforts.

Anderson also issued a statement regarding his resignation. “I also want to emphasize how grateful I am for the opportunity to represent Iowa State,” Anderson said. “My wife, Sharon, and I have made many great friends here over the years.”

Anderson’s teams won 37 tournament titles, including 12 team victories in the 1990’s.
