Construction set for I-35

Interstate 35 will begin a patching project today that is expected to continue over the next two weeks.

In an area of road stretching from Iowa Highway 210 twelve miles south of Ames, north to the Wright County line, parts of the road will be reduced to one lane in four-mile increments.

“They will close no more than four miles at a time,” Dakin Schultz of the Iowa Department of Transportation said.

While the project is slated to enter completion within the next two weeks, workers will have until the end of September to finish the patching project.

“Weather permitting, they’ll be done by the end of September,” Schultz said.

Because Interstate 35 will undergo patching work in small sections, delays are expected to be kept at a minimum.

“The biggest [delay] I’d expect would be a slowdown in traffic,” Schultz said. “I don’t know if game day will be affected. If that were to happen, we’d ask them to work in a different area or not work on Saturday.”
