Elizabeth Smart spoke about her experience of being a victim and then becoming an empowered survivor at a lecture on Friday. She spoke on her personal feelings at the time, “By the time I got home, I was so embarrassed and so ashamed of what had happened to me I didn’t want to talk about it with anyone I didn’t want anyone to know what had happened me because it was so bad.” Smart spoke at Stephens Auditorium on Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. Smart was abducted as a 14-year-old in 2002 and told her story, “From Adversity to Empowerment.” Along with Smart’s lecture, there was a resource fair held in the Celebrity Cafe and a book signing at the end of the event.
