A person was struck by a CyRide bus while biking on campus near 11 a.m. Tuesday. The accident occurred on the corner of Osborn Drive and Morrill Road, on the route Orange 23.

Witnesses reported the person walked away from the accident.

Sheri Kyras, Director of Transit for CyRide, said the investigation is still ongoing. Kyras said CyRide believes the person is a student at Iowa State.

“We really don’t know a whole lot,” said Kyras. “We are still investigating the accident at this point.”

Kyras stressed that safety is the number one priority for CyRide operators. All CyRide drivers are required to go through intensive training which require multiple driver’s tests as well as over 120 hours of shadowing another driver.

“We do have a really rigourous driver training program,” Kyras said. “Safety is first priority.”
