Iowa State tennis has a packed week, facing three opponents on the road. It starts with Colorado State on Wednesday, then No. 72 Colorado on Friday and finishes with No. 13 Texas Tech on Sunday.
Colorado State Preview
Starting the road trip, the Cyclones play the Colorado State Rams in Fort Collins, Colorado. Iowa State and Colorado State have played three times in their history.
The Rams lead the series 2-1 all-time with the last match happening in 1999, which the Rams won 5-4.
Colorado State sits at 1-7 on the year, its lone win coming from when it hosted Montana in January.
The Cyclones come into this contest ranked No. 54 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s (ITA) Feb. 25 rankings. Iowa State is 5-2 so far this season, and its most recent win was a 7-0 sweep over South Dakota on Sunday.
Look out for freshman Julia Camblor in this upcoming match. Camblor won her most recent singles match 6-2, 6-1. She is 4-1 in singles this season, splitting time at the No. 1 and 2 spots.
Colorado Preview
Iowa State closes out its spell in the Centennial State versus No. 72 Colorado in Boulder.
This contest will be the first ranked opponent the Cyclones have faced this season. The Buffaloes hold the series lead 20-5 all-time. However, Iowa State has won the last three matches in 2010, 2011 and 2021. The 2021 win was the largest margin of victory, 6-1, in the series’ history.
Colorado’s record is 6-2 this season. Its most recent match was a 4-3 loss to then-No. 52 Penn State, now ranked No. 36 by the ITA.
This match will start Big 12 play, and it’s going to be a tough way to start. The Cyclones must be firing on all cylinders to get past this Buffaloes squad.
Texas Tech Preview
The Cyclones close their three-game road trip traveling south to Lubbock, Texas, to face No. 13 Texas Tech.
The Red Raiders lead the series 27-3 all-time. Iowa State has gotten all three of its wins in the last five matches and will look for its first win in Lubbock.
Texas Tech sits at 7-1 with a five-game win streak. The Red Raiders’ last match was a 4-0 blanking of Arizona on the road.
This will be one of the toughest opponents the Cyclones will face this season. Texas Tech has already beaten two ranked teams.
Camblor, freshman Mari Paz, Alberto Vilar and senior Anna Supapitch Kuearum are the Cyclones to watch in this match. All three of them are 4-1 in singles this season.
All the action begins when Iowa State faces Colorado State 1 p.m. Wednesday.
