With the indoor season coming to an end, Iowa State worked hard to finish strong at the Big 12 Indoor Track and Field Championships in Lubbock, Texas.
Overall, the Cyclones meet was difficult, as they competed against the finest in the Big 12 Conference. However, Iowa State found success.
Here are three main takeaways from a challenging Big 12 Championship meet.
Blackman wins 600-yard dash
One of the events that saw the Cyclones victorious was the men’s 600-yard dash.
Senior Dugion Blackman won the Big 12 championship in this event with a blistering time of 1:07.79, earning 10 points for the Cyclones. Senior Aman Thornton came in fourth in the event as well with a good time of 1:08.66, earning five points for the Cyclones.
Joseph wins women’s 400-meter
Another event that the Cyclones were able to take home the Big 12 Championship crown was the women’s 400-meter dash.
Junior Rachel Joseph took home 10 points for the Cyclones women’s team with a great showing in the 400. Joseph ran an excellent time of 50.88 seconds.
This was well earned for Joseph after coming so close to winning the 400-meter last year, when she came in second place at the Big 12 Indoor Championships.
Galdino wins 1000-meter
The Cyclones had their third and final winner for the Big 12 Championship in the men’s 1000-meter.
Junior Emanuel Galdino took home the first place finish with a great time of 2.20:36 to get the Cyclones 10 more points for the meet. Senior Tyler Carreon also got the Cyclones three more points in the event with a time of 2:23.95.
Overall, the Cyclones placed top five on both the men’s and the women’s side, finishing fourth and fifth, respectively. There is room to improve going forward but nothing to hang their heads about due to the competitiveness of the Big 12 conference.
