Iowa State’s campus is partially closing Wednesday due to a blizzard warning.
The ISU alert email stated that “During a partial closure, the university will maintain the following services: police/public safety, power plant, residence halls, food service, health care, animal care and critical maintenance, including ongoing research projects. In these forecasted circumstances, campus offices have the flexibility to close or provide remote/virtual services – safety should be a priority.”
Additionally, it states that “Supervisors should provide maximum flexibility for employees to work remotely or take leave. If remote work is not an option, consider potential training opportunities that employees can complete remotely.”
Craig Cogil, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service (NWS) in Des Moines, said overnight winds will reach 30 to 40 mph and gusts reaching 65 mph.
“About the same time the wind becomes really strong, we’re going to see a transition from rain to snow,” Cogil said.
Cogil said the snow is expected to stop late morning on Wednesday. However, much of Central Iowa will remain under a blizzard warning.
“Right now we have a blizzard warning out for Story County in much of Central Iowa,” Cogil said. “There’s also a high wind warning out as well.”
Cogil said the main thing people can do to be safe is stay indoors.
“Don’t travel unless it’s absolutely necessary,” Cogil said.
All campus buildings will be closed and locked and classes will meet virtually. For those who need access to any buildings, contact ISU’s Public Safety Department at (515)-294-4428.
