In a meet stacked with some of the top talent in the country, select Iowa State distance runners were pushed to personal best times and climbed the school’s all-time leaderboard.
In the fastest section of the 5,000-meter run, freshman Robin Kwemoi Bera raced to a 13-second personal best at 13:28.12 and climbed to fifth on the Cyclones’ leaderboard in the event. Freshman Isaac Rivera made his debut and ran a 14:24.34 to place 18th in section four.
Senior Quinton Orr opened his season in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and finished with an 8:39.90 and placed eighth. His five-second personal record advanced him from ninth to seventh in Iowa State’s all-time steeplechase standings.
The 10,000-meter run saw sophomore Rodgers Kiplimo jump to second all-time in the Cyclone history books, running a 27:52.12 and tearing 50 seconds off his previous personal record.
Redshirt freshman Ryan Watts ran a 28:22.71 to place 25th in section one and climbed to eighth on the school’s leaderboard. In addition, freshman Allen Bonnessen made his Cyclone debut and finished in 29:55.07 to place 15th in section three.
The Cyclones will be scattered around the Midwest next weekend, with the 44 Farms Team Invite in College Station, Texas, taking place Friday and Saturday, while others will compete at the Jim Duncan Invite at Drake Stadium in Des Moines Friday.
