AMES – After going 1-2 in the series against BYU, Iowa State hosted Kansas City on Wednesday. Coming off a two-game losing streak, the Cyclones found themselves back in the win column with a dominant 9-1 run-rule victory.
After two, the Cyclones had the Roos shutout 2-0
Freshman right-handed pitcher Abby Huhn started on the mound. The top of the first rounded out quickly by sticking to the basics and making simple catches.
In the bottom of the first, freshman Sereniti Trice opened the scoring for Iowa State. Trice earned a hit and a stolen base to get in position and eventually score the first run of the game.
Freshman infielder Jessie Clemons profited from junior infielder Reagan Bartholomew’s double to put the team up 2-0.

The top of the second played out with a catch at center field and a double play to shut out the Roos.
In the bottom of the second, freshman catcher Karlee Ford singled to be the only player on base for the Cyclones, as Kansas City had a double play and a fly-out catch to close out the first two innings.
Iowa State shells out five runs in the third for a 7-1 lead
Huhn returned to the mound to start the third inning and allowed a walk. Following this, Huhn struck a batter out shortly before the Roos scored.

A pitching change occurred following the run allowed and sophomore right-handed pitcher Lauren Schurman took the mound to close out the top of the third.
The bottom of the third turned into a run-fest for Iowa State as five runs were scored. Trice scored off of senior outfielder Angelina Allen’s single after Trice gained a base from a passed ball.
Junior center fielder Tatum Johnson, who drew a walk, scored another run following Clemons’ single.
With a runner on first and third, Bartholomew hit a home run that scored three additional runs. Allen, Bartholomew and Clemons all earned the runs.
In just her third game back following an injury, Bartholomew has put it all on the field.
“I felt great,” Bartholomew said. “I think it’s just the excitement to be back and help the team is what’s really pushing me.”
Cyclones seal the game with two runs to close out a 9-1 game
Schurman opened the fourth inning by striking out a Kansas City batter. The fourth inning wrapped up with an out at home and a caught ball at third base.
The bottom of the fourth breezed by with Clemons flying out and two more easy outs followed.
With two easy outs and a strikeout, the final at-bat for the Roos came to a close.
The final at-bat for Iowa State closed out with a stolen base by Trice and two runs scored. The final runs were scored by Trice and Ford.

As Trice went 4-for-4 on at-bats and scored three times, there’s no doubt that she led the team in both categories.
“I was really excited for that performance; I haven’t been too pleased with my at-bats recently, so today was a hard reset before Oklahoma State this weekend,” Trice said.
When the Cowgirls paid the Cyclones a visit last season, they fell under pressure despite being ranked No. 5.
“They’ll [Oklahoma State] probably be looking for a little redemption, so we’ll have to be ready from the get-go,” head coach Jamie Pinkerton said.
Iowa State will head to Stillwater to take on Oklahoma State with a first pitch set for noon Friday. The game will be live-streamed on ESPN+.
