Student Government reaffirmed its commitment to students and confirmed annual allocations. Following the passing of Senate File 418, some students have felt displaced in the Iowa State population.
“Student Government reaffirms its commitment to student health and well-being, even as it relates to their gender identity,” according to the resolution document.
This organization continues to support students no matter their gender identity or background.
“The idea of supporting students, especially right now, is very important,” Sen. Noah Kammeyer, a junior in political science, said.
This resolution was passed by way of unanimous consent after several other members voiced their support.
A proposal to administer a public archive directory in order to acknowledge past student government members as an addition to the Student Government bylaws was rejected in a roll call vote of 5-10-8.
The Senate received $2.03 million of the annual Student Activities Fee for fiscal year 2026.
This total is distributed among various accounts managed and utilized by the Senate.
“Most of these numbers here are outlined in our bylaws, how much we are supposed to allocate to each of these accounts,” Finance Director Evan Martinez, a senior in political science, said.
The allocations were as follows:
- Student Organization Debt Reserve Account – $0.00
- Student Activity Fee Reserve – $179,340.00
- Legislative Relations – $15,000.00
- Regular Allocation Account – $1,477,695.14
- Senate Discretionary Account – $30,000.00
- Recurring and Other Obligations Account – $1,122,772.86
- Executive Initiative Account – $5,000.00
- ASSET Account – $273,532.00
- Events Account – $50,000.00
- Green Initiatives – $30,000.00
- Special Projects – $0.00
The order was passed by unanimous consent, allocating $2.03 million to Student Government accounts for fiscal year 2026.
Funding
The African Learning and Evolving Community received $516 to support the Night of African Cultures Event at 4 p.m. April 26 in Carver Hall which will involve food, parades, music and dancing.
The Senate also agreed to fund $6,712 to the African Student Association’s African Night Event which will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday in the CMI Event Center. This event is a long-standing tradition for the association.
The Ghana Students Association received $492 to account for the costs following its catering event which was held in March.
