The Iowa State track and field team will split up this weekend. First, on Friday, some Cyclones will attend the Jim Duncan Invite in Des Moines. Then, on Friday and Saturday, some athletes will head down to College Station, Texas, to compete in the 44 Farms Team Invite.
In College Station, the Cyclones will be part of a loaded field. The Georgia Bulldogs will be one of the top teams to watch out for. According to USTFCCCA, the Bulldogs men’s team is currently ranked No. 3 in the nation, while their women’s team is ranked No. 1.
The other big school to keep an eye out for is Auburn. The Tigers men’s team comes in at No. 25, while their women’s team is currently No. 15, respectively.
Some Iowa State athletes to keep an eye out for in college station will be Cam Jones in both the discus and shot put, Alec Carr in the men’s 400-meter hurdles, Darius Kipyego in the men’s 800-meter, and lastly, Rachel Joseph in the women’s 400-meter dash.
For the Cyclones that head to Des Moines, they won’t be met with as many teams from all over the country, but with a lot of in-state familiar faces. The biggest team to watch out for will be the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Iowa is coming into this meet hot, with the women’s team ranked No. 9 and men’s team ranked No. 20. The Cyclones will be poised to face off with some of the best the Midwest has to offer. Some other schools to watch will be the hosting Drake Bulldogs and Northern Iowa Panthers.
Iowa State athletes to watch on Friday will be all of the distance runners. The Cyclones will have a full roster of athletes in both the men’s and women’s 1500 meters. The distance runners shined last weekend at the Stanford Invitational and will look to continue that momentum this weekend in Des Moines.
The 44 Farms Invite begins at 11 a.m. Friday and the Jim Duncan Invite begins at 12:30 p.m. Friday.
