With summer in full swing, Ames has several outdoor activities community members can partake in.
Reiman Gardens: Boasting the world’s largest gnome statue and an interactive butterfly enclosure that houses up to 800 live butterflies, Reiman Gardens is one of the top destinations in Ames. The general admission fee is $12, but Iowa State students can explore these fantastic grounds for free.
Furman Aquatic Center: Featuring three large slides, a lazy river, and an open poolFour swimming lanes are always set aside for that. Adults pay $7 for admission, while Iowa State students pay $6. Season passes are also available.
Ames Farmers’ Market: Located on Main Street and open every Saturday at 8 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., the farmers’ market promotes local businesses and products.
Ada Hayden Heritage Park: Situated on the north side of Ames, this park includes a large man-made lake and miles of hiking trails. A canoe ramp has recently been added alongside its boat ramp, making it accessible for getting onto the water.
Golf Courses: There are plenty of golf courses in Ames, including Veenker Memorial (North Ames), Homewood Municipal (Northeast Ames), and Coldwater golf links (South Ames).
Georgie Tsushima Memorial Skate Park: Located just outside of campus, this is the place to go if you love to ride skateboards or scooters.
Moore Memorial Park: A large park with a pond and a mile-long path that loops through the woods. Moore Memorial Park also has two shelters available for reservation, along with grills and tables.
Iowa State Cross Country Course: The grass is well-maintained, there are hills in the back, and parking is available across the street.
