Three things remain constant with many college students: saving money whenever possible, dedicating Saturday to football and going to classes. So just how important are classes to students?
One way to tell is by looking at how early students get to class. Students show up at various times, and some do not show up at all.
What is early to students? Is it showing up five minutes before the start of the lecture, or being the first one in the hall? Camryn Holland, a freshman in management, said 15 to 20 minutes is ideal for her.
“I have anxiety, and I’m worried something is going to happen and it’s going to delay me, and I won’t get to class on time,” Holland said.
Holland says that getting to class on time also benefits her by allowing extra time to prepare for her lectures.
“I can get everything ready before the professor starts talking instead of scrambling, and that way I’ll for sure get all the notes down,” Holland said.
Harry Kizer, a freshman majoring in art, said he arrives a little later, still with enough time to find a seat and get ready for class.
“I get there 10 minutes early,” Kizer said. “It gives me enough time to get a seat, it gives me enough time to get situated.”
Kizer believes this is the perfect time to arrive at class. He is able to avoid coming too early and waiting, but doesn’t run the risk of being late.
“It’s kind of like that golden mean of time where I’m not sitting in the class longer than I have to, but also, I’m there with enough time to be prepared and ready,” Kizer said.
Calvin Halverson, a senior majoring in mechanical engineering, also thinks getting to class early is important.
“It lets you get all of your stuff out so you’re not rustling around when everything’s going on,” Halverson said.
