Iowa State fell short against the No. 15 Kansas Jayhawks 3-1 Friday night in Lawrence, Kansas, as part of its second stop in the Sunflower State.
The Cyclones won the first set 25-21, but all things went downhill from there as they scored 18, 20 and 19 points in the other three sets to follow.
Hitting percentage sees major drop in set two
In set one, the Cyclones came out swinging with a .395 hitting percentage, but it didn’t get any better from there. In set two, the Cyclones’ hitting percentage tanked down to .077. Their hitting percentage in the match was .209.
With the exception of senior setter Morgan Brandt, any Cyclones who were on the court for all four sets had hitting percentages of .185 or lower. The Jayhawks had a total of 10 team blocks, two of which were solo blocks.
Only Ti’a reaches double-digit kills
Junior Nayeli Ti’a led the Cyclones with 15 kills in the match. Unfortunately for the Cyclones, no one else had 10 or more kills in the match. Meanwhile, the Jayhawks had four.
Freshman Reagan Hanfelt also did not see as much offensive production as she had in the previous matches against Kansas State, UCF and Texas Tech. Hanfelt only played three of the four sets, having three kills and two blocks.
