It’s that time of the year for the fall classic, the Major League Baseball championship. The World Series happens every October, and the two best teams in baseball match up against each other.
With many sports fans on campus, Iowa State has shown interest in this year’s Series matchup.
This year, the Toronto Blue Jays and the Los Angeles Dodgers play in the series. The Dodgers won the championship last year against the New York Yankees, but the Blue Jays haven’t won it since 1993.
The Blue Jays are the highest seed in the American League, and the Dodgers are the third-highest seed in the National League.
So far, two games have been played in the Series, with both teams taking one game each.
Game 1 ended with the Blue Jays beating the Dodgers 11-4. Zane Fox, a freshman and undecided engineering major, believes that the Blue Jays will go on to win the series.
“I think the Blue Jays will win the World Series,” Fox said. “Mostly due to Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and that opening game where they won with 11 runs.”
In Game 2, the Dodgers won by a score of 5-1, tying up the series. Sean Daly, a junior in accounting, believes that the Dodgers will win the Series.
“I think the Dodgers are going to win,” Daly said. “I just think they have a better overall team. They’ve had better playoff success in the last three seasons.”
Daly believes that reigning MVP and star Dodgers player Shohei Ohtani will be the deciding factor in this series.
“Shohei Ohtani has been an incredible player, probably one of the best in the MLB,” Daly said.
Game Three will be played at 7 p.m. Monday in Dodger Stadium.
