The No. 14 Iowa State women’s basketball team is keeping the ball rolling right off the bat as they host Southern University (0-1) in Ames at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
This comes just a little over 48 hours after a complete domination of St. Thomas (0-1), 85-36, on Tuesday. The win featured the classic high-powered Cyclone offense, while showcasing what is becoming a new era of stout defense.
Junior center Audi Crooks led all scorers with 20 points, with junior forward Addy Brown adding 11 points, six rebounds and six assists. 12 different players put up points on the night.
The Jaguars opened their season just down the road, suffering an 86-51 loss to the No. 21 Iowa Hawkeyes, Tuesday. Junior guard Zaria Hurston led the team with 14 points, four rebounds and five steals. Graduate guard Jaylia Reed added nine points.
The Cyclones have won the last four meetings against the Jaguars, most recently an 84-56 victory on Nov. 10, 2024.
Southern finished 21-15 overall last year, 15-3 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play. They were both SWAC regular season champions and SWAC tournament champions, earning themselves a bid into the 2025 NCAA tournament.
The Jaguars also made history as the first SWAC team to win an NCAA tournament game after they beat UC San Diego, 68-56, in the play-in round. Their season came to an end at the hands of top-seeded UCLA, 84-46, in the first round.
The Cyclones will host the Jaguars at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. The game can be watched on ESPN+.
