The Cyclones played their last game of their opening conference play in the Big 12.

Iowa State travelled to Stillwater, Oklahoma, to face Oklahoma State in a three-game competition.

The Cyclones had previously lost the first two games against the Cowgirls, losing on Friday 7-1 and then again 8-2 on Saturday.

Iowa State would then follow that with a victory in the Cowgirls’ stadium, on 12 innings of playing.

The Cowgirls began their scoring in the bottom of the first inning as Madi Sue Montgomery tripled down the right field line, scoring in Taylor Lynch.

Lynch would then show up again in the bottom of the second, getting a home run to left field for a solo run.

Montgomery would show up on the offensive side of the ball, homering to right center, scoring in Taylor Pence to lead 4-0.

The Cyclones would get a score in the top of the sixth inning, when Kaylee Bosworth reached on a fielder’s choice, allowing for Jackie Chairez to be out at second, while scoring in Sydney Stites unearned.

Iowa State would then shorten the lead in the next inning as Logan Schaben would come in as the designated hitter, scoring in her first home run of the season, placing the Cyclones within two scores to tie.

In the next plays, Williams would triple to get herself on third base. Stites would get her home when she homered to left field, scoring in Williams and tying the game at four runs apiece.

Taylor Nearad would be the next in the scoring list, homering for a solo home run that would extend and hold onto the Cyclones’ lead at 5-4 in the 12th inning.

The Cyclones would attempt to switch up the pace and brought in Emma Hylen to pitch in place of Savannah Sanders for the remaining of the game after the fifth inning.

Sanders’ stats consisted of four innings, with four earned runs on six hits, striking out two batters.

Hylen came in, pitching eight innings, accounting for five hits, but no runs. She earned the win and saved the Cyclones from getting swept in this competition in Stillwater.

The Cyclones will head back to Ames and await the Texas Longhorns at the Cyclone Sport Complex on March 29.
