Rough start for Cyclones on first day of Wooo Pig Classic

Junior Kaila Konz makes it safely to first Sep. 23, the Pitch was ruled a ball by the umpire. The Cyclones defeated the Kirkwood Eagles 9-1.

Game 1- Iowa State vs. Tulsa: Golden Hurricanes 7, Cyclones 1

Iowa State took the mound with right-handed pitcher Brianna Weilbacher in its first game of the day. Weilbacher did not have a good outing for the Cyclones, pitching seven innings giving up seven runs on 12 hits. She also had three strikeouts.

Tulsa started the scoring early, taking the lead in the top of the first inning when it scored two runs on two hits. Tulsa took a 2-0 lead to start the game.

The Golden Hurricanes extended their lead in the top of the fourth inning with a solo home run to left field. Tulsa then led 3-0.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Cyclones had a chance with runners on first and second with no outs. The Cyclones could not convert and left both runner stranded.

Tulsa scored big in the top of the fifth inning with a three-run home run from Tulsa’s first basemen Tori Stafford. It gave the Golden Hurricanes a 6-0 lead.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Iowa State got on the board with a solo home run from Sami Williams. Williams hit a deep home run to center field. It was her eighth home run of the season and it tied her total home runs from last season. 

The Golden Hurricanes scored their final run in the top of the seventh inning. It was a solo home run to extend their lead to 7-1.

Iowa State had another chance in the bottom of the seventh with a single down the left side from Williams, but could not covert. Williams went 3-for-4 with a home run.

Iowa State fell to Tulsa 7-1. The Cyclones left nine runners on base.

Game 2- Iowa State vs. Arkansas: Razorbacks 8, Cyclones 3

The Cyclones took the mound for the second game with right-handed pitcher Savannah Sanders. Sanders pitched five innings giving up six runs on 10 hits.

Arkansas got things rolling early when it scored one run on an RBI single up the middle in the bottom of the first inning. Arkansas left the bases loaded, but took a 1-0 lead.

The Razorbacks extended their lead in the bottom of the third with a two-run home run from their designated player Katie Warrick. Arkansas was on top 3-0.

In the top of the fourth inning, Taylor Nearad hit her 11th double of the season, but but she was left stranded on third. She leads the team in doubles this season.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, a solo home run from Warrick again gave the Razorbacks a 4-0 lead.

Iowa State got on the board in the top of the sixth inning when Sydney Stites hit a double to right field. Kaylee Bosworth hit an RBI single to left to score Stites. The score was 4-1 in favor of the Razorbacks.

Emma Hylen entered to pitch in the bottom of the sixth inning with runners on first and second with no outs.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Razorbacks hit a three-run home run and then added another run on an error from Kaila Konz. The Razorbacks took an 8-1 lead. 

In the top of the seventh, the Cyclones got two runs. A two-RBI single from Nearad scored Williams and Logan Schaben. The score was 8-3. 

Iowa State fell to Arkansas 8-3. The Cyclones left seven runners on base.
