The Iowa State softball team competed on short rest when it faced UT-Arlington just two days after shutting out Penn State.

The Cyclones won a close game against UT-Arlington by a score of 2-1.

The Cyclones were led by the pitching services of Brianna Weilbacher, pitching all seven innings and allowing only one earned run on three hits.

She added six strikeouts to get her record to 7-2 on the season.

The Cyclones opened the scoring on the top of the third inning when Sami Williams homered to the left center.

The Mavericks then responded when Bri Burchianti homered to the left field, tying the score at one.

The Cyclones would then trade scoreless innings with the Mavericks until the top of the sixth inning when Williams called her own number again and homered to right field. That score was the winning run.

The Mavericks attempted to respond but could not get through the pitches of Weilbacher who struck out three Mavericks for the win.

This brings the Cyclones’ record to 14-12 and improves their away record to 3-4.

The Cyclones return to the diamond tomorrow, when they face North Texas for a double header starting at noon in Denton, Texas.
