Iowa State falls to Oklahoma State after leading early

Freshman Sami Williams races the throw to first and is ruled safe during the 7th inning Sep. 23. The Cyclones defeated the Kirkwood Eagles 9-1.

The Cyclones started the scoring early. In the top of the first, Sydney Stites hit a solo home run to right field to give the Cyclones a 1-0 lead. It was her fifth home run of the season.

Also in the top of the first, Sally Woolpert reached on an error by the third basemen. Then, Kaylee Bosworth was hit by pitch and Woolpert advanced to second. Taylor Nearad reached on a fielder’s choice. 

With three people on base, Nychole Antillon came up to the plate and hit an RBI single down the right field line to score Woolpert. The Cyclones took a 2-0 lead.

Emma Hylen pitched five innings and one out giving up seven runs on six hits.

Hylen gave up her first run in the bottom of the third inning. The Cowgirls scored one run to make the score 2-1 Cyclones lead. Iowa State got out of the third inning with a 6-3 double play by Sami Williams and Woolpert. 

Oklahoma State scored big in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Cowgirls scored six runs on three hits. Savannah Sanders would enter to pitch with one out for Hylen after Hylen gave up five runs.

The Cyclones fell to the Cowgirls 7-2. They are on a three-game losing streak and will play the Cowgirls again tomorrow at noon.
