Cyclones go 1-1 on first day of Kickin’ Chicken Classic

Junior Kaila Konz makes it safely to first Sep. 23, the Pitch was ruled a ball by the umpire. The Cyclones defeated the Kirkwood Eagles 9-1.

Walk-off against St. Francis

Iowa State got its first win of the season and its first win with new head coach Jamie Pinkerton. The Cyclones won a thriller against St. Francis in extra innings.

Senior Brianna Weilbacher came out strong against St. Francis. Weilbacher pitched eight innings giving up only three hits. She had six strike outs in the game.

The score stayed tied 0-0 into extra innings. It took eight innings but the Cyclones got it done. 

Runners were on first and third with two outs when sophomore Sami Williams had a walk-off base hit to left field allowing sophomore Hannah Carter to score from third.

Cyclones fall 8-0 against Coastal Carolina 

The Cyclones took the mound with junior right-handed pitcher Emma Hylen. Hylen pitched one inning and one out. She had two strike outs in the first but gave up three runs in the second making the score 3-0.

Hylen was replaced by junior right-handed pitcher Savannah Sanders who pitched two innings. Sanders gave up a grand slam in the fifth inning. The Chanticleers extended their lead to 7-0.

In comes freshman right-handed pitcher Julie Lewis for the Cyclones. Lewis gave up one run making the score 8-0.

The Cyclones could not get their bats rolling as they fell to the Chanticleers 8-0. Iowa State will take on Presbyterian tomorrow at 8:30 am.
